Specified Illness Cover

Specified Illness Cover, sometimes referred to as Critical Illness or Serious Illness, provides a lump sum if you are diagnosed as suffering from one of a number of specified serious illnesses or need to undergo any of several specified surgical procedures.  There is scarcely a family in Ireland that has not been touched by the scourge and trauma of serious illnesses such as cancer and heart disease but victims are more likely to survive such illnesses than die from them.  Illness and disease have no respect for age or status.  In many cases income will fall, as victims are unable to work at the level at which they worked prior to diagnosis.  The data in the table hereunder alarmingly highlights the chances of contracting a serious illness before the age of 65:

Illness and possibility of contracting

  • Cancer  1 in 7
  • Heart Attack  1 in 17
  • Stroke  1 in 27
  • Any one of the above  1 in 5

Against that backdrop it is therefore prudent for anybody who can afford to, to effect a Specified Illness Policy so as to secure the financial future of themselves and their loved ones, in the event that they should contract a specified condition.  Indeed the benefit of such protection can also be extended to business interests, partners etc.
